Sean "Diddy" Combs is required to relinquish control of his New York property.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams requested actor and music tycoon Sean "Diddy" Combs to return the symbolic key to the city, which he received in September 2021, after the release of his much-awaited studio album. The key was returned on June 10, as reported by the mayor's spokesperson.
Adams handed over the key to the city to Combs, a native New Yorker, on the very same day of the album's release. "The showbiz bad boy receives the key to the city from the political bad boy," Adams said during the presentation in NYC's Times Square.
However, two months later, Combs' former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, shared allegations of his physical abuse during their long-term relationship. In 2022, a video from 2016 was released by CNN showing apparent abuse of Ventura by Combs in a hotel lobby. "The recent videos of Sean 'Diddy' Combs displaying aggressive behavior towards his former partner are highly concerning to me," Adams wrote in a statement. "I unequivocally denounce such actions and stand in solidarity with all victims of domestic and gender-based violence."
Combs issued a public apology for his actions. Ventura and Combs had an on-and-off relationship since 2007 and had collaborated on various projects. In November 2021, the singer filed a civil lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of sexual misconduct, rape, intimidation, and physical violence. The case was settled without a trial, and Combs dismissed the accusations. However, it wasn't only Ventura who accused Combs. Crystal McKinney, a former model, alleged that Combs drugged and raped her in 2003.
