Scooter Braun advocates for shifting focus from the discussion surrounding Taylor Swift's ownership of her master recordings.
The music industry bigwig prefers the focus to shift away from his high-profile and debatable purchase of superstar Taylor Swift's master records, expressing his sentiment that "it's been five years, I think it's high time to shift gears" from the subject.
During his appearance at the Bloomberg Screentime event in Hollywood last Thursday, he mentioned that watching the Max docuseries "Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood" - which aired in June and delved into the fallout from the sale - made him realize that many aspects were misrepresented. (Max and CNN share a parent company with Warner Bros. Discovery.)
Braun asserted that instead of addressing disputes through public forums like social media, face-to-face interactions between parties involved are more beneficial. "I believe that in any conflict, people should communicate directly with each other, instead of airing their gripes publicly," he opined. "In my experience, once people sit down to talk, the beast turns out to be less terrifying than it seemed."
He pointed out that a direct conversation between him and Swift hasn't taken place yet.
Back in 2019, Braun acquired the master recordings for Swift's initial six albums from her ex-label, Big Machine Label Group, against her wishes.
Swift's spirited response to the sale involved releasing a passionate statement on her social media channels, labeling the deal as her "worst-case scenario" and sharing her intentions to regain ownership of her masters by re-recording the obtained albums.
Since then, Swift has re-released four of the six albums, each collected under the "Taylor’s Version" title, with additional tracks labeled as "From the Vault Tracks."
During a show in Minneapolis last year following the release of "Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)," Swift stated, "I want to own my music and I believe that any artist who desires to own their music should have that opportunity."
Surprisingly, during the Bloomberg event, when asked about whose career he'd like to be involved with, Braun named Swift, igniting audible reactions from the audience. "The artist who I would always bet on – someone who is already a star that you can always bet on because they're relentless in their pursuit to be present and relevant is Taylor Swift," Braun declared.
Braun expressed his interest in changing the conversation from his acquisition of Swift's master records, mentioning that it's time to focus on new entertainment ventures. His sentiment was further emphasized during the Bloomberg event, where he named Swift as an artist he'd like to be involved with, revealing his admiration for her career and relentless passion for entertainment.
