Sales of Porsche Macan with gasoline engine in the EU ended prematurely
The Volkswagen subsidiary Porsche will withdraw the Macan SUV with a gasoline engine from the EU market early because the changeover to new registration regulations would be too costly. A spokesperson confirmed a report in the Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspapers (Friday) on Thursday that the vehicle's platform will no longer be adapted to the future EU regulations.
This means that the model will no longer be eligible for registration from the beginning of July. Sales will already be discontinued in the course of the spring to ensure that the vehicles can be delivered and registered by the deadline.
As of July 1, only vehicles that comply with the new cybersecurity regulations, i.e. to defend against possible hacker attacks, can be newly registered in the EU. Among other things, this requires interventions in the software for control units. In addition, car manufacturers must introduce, document and certify processes to increase cyber security as early as the development phase. As the requirements were not yet known at the time, this could not be taken into account during the development of the combustion models, the Porsche spokesperson continued. This could not easily be made up for now.
