Russian soldiers allegedly abduct and murder civilians, claims Ukrainian minister of interior.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko claims Russian soldiers have been capturing and killing civilians in the city of Vovchansk, located in the Kharkiv region. Posting on his Telegram channel on Thursday, Klymenko revealed the first reported instances of civilian deaths at the hands of Russian forces.
A local resident who attempted to escape and defied Russian orders was killed, Klymenko said. Furthermore, other residents were stopped from evacuating the city, "abducted and forced into cellars." However, these claims remain unverified.
Approximately a week ago, Russia started a new significant offensive in the northeastern region of Ukraine. The Russian army managed to seize several border villages in the Kharkiv region, leading Ukraine to start evacuating civilians from the area. Nonetheless, due to the intense fighting near Vovchansk - a town around five kilometers from the border, not everyone could be safely removed.
