Russia states capture of Ukrainian fortification.
The Ukrainian military has been dealing with immense pressure for the past few weeks. They're lacking essential supplies such as ammunition and Russia is intensifying their onslaught in Kharkiv. Recent reports suggest that Luhansk is now completely under Russian control, following the fall of a key Ukrainian resistance base.
Russia has revealed that it has taken over one of the last villages held by the Ukrainians in the Luhansk region, which they have declared as annexed. In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry declared, "The units of South Group of Forces have now entirely liberated the village of Bilohorivka within the Luhansk People's Republic and acquired better tactical positions." Prior to the conflict, Bilohorivka, home to around 800 residents, symbolized Ukrainian resistance in the Luhansk region.
Back in February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin first acknowledged the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics as independent states and subsequently initiated his war against Ukraine under the pretext of safeguarding Russian nationals in those territories. For a long time, conquering these lands has been a top objective for the Kremlin.
In the past two weeks, the Ukrainian army has been facing an onslaught from Russia in the Kharkiv region and struggling with a lack of ammunition at the same time. Moscow asserts they have made major gains in the last week.
Russia commenced its hostilities against Ukraine more than two years ago and continually launches artillery strikes on civilian targets, resulting in deaths and injuries. On the other hand, Ukrainian shelling has also resulted in casualties in Russian-controlled territories.
