Russia declares seizure of Klishchiivka village.

Russia recently declared that they have taken over one of the few villages in the eastern region of Ukraine that Ukraine had managed to capture during their 2023 counter-offensive. This village, called Klishchiivka in Donetsk, was "freed" by the Russian Army according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. There was no initial response from Kiev.

Klishchiivka is located near the significant frontline town of Bakhmut and once had approximately 500 inhabitants. The Russian soldiers had previously taken control of the village in January 2023 but then lost it when Ukraine took it back at the end of the ineffective counter-offensive in September of the same year.

Right now, the Ukrainian army is facing substantial pressure. They are engaged in combat against a new Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, while at the same time struggling with a significant shortage of ammunition on the front lines.

Russia has been claiming successive territorial gains since they started the ground offensive in Kharkiv. On Monday, they announced that they had captured the strategic Ukrainian stronghold of Bilohorivka, which allows them to have complete control over the eastern region of Luhansk.

As reported by the Russian news agency Tass, authorities under Russian control in Luhansk claimed that Ukrainian forces were shelling the city of Lysychansk. A person died and two others were hurt. Lysychansk, located close to the eastern front, was captured by Russian troops in mid-2022.

On the Russian border in the Belgorod region, one person was killed and two more injured due to Ukrainian airstrikes on Wednesday, according to the regional governor. "Several air targets were shot down as they approached the village of Belenkoye. Unfortunately, one civilian was killed," said Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Another civilian in Belenkoye and one person near the border town of Shebekino were also injured.
