"Elvis" star Austin Butler unsuitable? - Rushed through the "Tribute of Panem" casting

His role as King of Rock 'n' Roll in "Elvis" earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe, but for another prestigious role, Austin Butler (32) apparently wasn't suitable. In an interview, he revealed which casting he had failed at.

In a question-and-answer session with "BuzzFeed Celeb," the actor was asked to name a film he had auditioned for that no one would guess. "I auditioned for 'The Hunger Games,'" he said. "I didn't even understand it, but I don't think I even got a callback. What was the character? Peeta," Butler recalled.

Beside Jennifer Lawrence

The "Hunger Games" film series, which began in 2012, was a huge success. In the dystopian story, citizens of the nation Panem are forced to fight to the death in public "Hunger Games." Jennifer Lawrence (33) plays the heroine Katniss Everdeen, and Liam Hemsworth (34) is seen as Gale Hawthorne, with whom Katniss plans a revolution. Then she discovers her feelings for Peeta, portrayed by Josh Hutcherson (31). Butler describes Hutcherson's performance as Peeta's actor in retrospect as "fantastic."

Carrie Bradshaw instead of Katniss Everdeen

At that time, Butler was part of the cast of "The Carrie Diaries," a prequel series to "Sex and the City." He played Carrie's lover Sebastian Kydd. His breakthrough on the big screen took another seven years, until Quentin Tarantino's (61) "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" was released, in which Butler appeared alongside Brad Pitt (60) and Leonardo DiCaprio (49). Then he landed his award-winning role in Baz Luhrmann's (61) biopic "Elvis." Currently, the American is in theaters with "The Bikeriders."

  2. Surprisingly, Austin Butler admitted to having auditioned for a role in "The Hunger Games," a film series based on Suzanne Collins' novels, but he didn't make it past the first round.
  3. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth played the leading roles in "The Hunger Games" film series, with Lawrence portraying Katniss Everdeen, Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, and Hutcherson as Peeta, whom Butler had auditioned for.
  4. Kaia Gerber, the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford, may have a shot at acting, given that she attended a party alongside the cast of "The Hunger Games" in 2012, including Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
  5. Austin Butler's turn as Elvis Presley in the biopic "Elvis" earned him a nomination for the prestigious Academy Award and a Golden Globe, marking a significant milestone in his acting career.
  6. In a world far removed from starring in dystopian Hunger Games and playing a love interest in Sex and the City prequel, Austing Butler's co-star in Baz Luhrmann's "The Bikeriders" could lead to another captivating performance, a testament to his versatility as an actor.
