There are even rules for royal knees here

Royal Ascot is one of the most significant social events in Great Britain and is considered the favorite event of the late Queen. Anyone who wants to be there must adhere to a strict dress code. This applies even to members of the royal family.

Royal Ascot is one of the most glamorous events in England during the summer. The late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) loved the five-day event, where the royal family, fashion, and horse racing take center stage. This year, Royal Ascot will take place from the 18th to the 22nd of June. High-ranking Royals like King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to attend. However, they are not exempt: the strict dress code must be observed!

For women

The dress code for women in the Royal Enclosure, the area where the royal family watches the horse racing at Ascot, requires skirts or dresses that cover the knee. Mini-skirts are not allowed, but jumpsuits are permitted, provided they follow the rules for shoulders and knee coverage.

Famous for fashion at Royal Ascot is the colorful and extravagant hats. Hats are mandatory for women, with a minimum diameter of approximately ten centimeters. Fascinators, small hats secured with hairpins, hair clips, combs, or hair buns, are forbidden.

For men

Hats are also mandatory for men in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot. They wear top hats with their morning coats. The suits must be black, gray, or navy blue. In addition to hats, waistcoats and ties are required. Black, elegant shoes are the only footwear allowed, and socks must cover the ankles.

Gaining access to the Royal Enclosure

The Royal Enclosure is only accessible to invited guests, originally it was exclusively reserved for the Monarch's guests. Members have access to a private area on the racecourse, a viewing point in the fourth tier of the Grand Stand, several fine dining restaurants, and a private car park.

According to the Ascot website, those wishing to apply for admission must be sponsored by two qualified members. The admission fee is £100 (approximately €116). Media reports suggest that prices for a meal in the Royal Enclosure start at around €1,700.

Members of the British Royal Family, such as King Charles III. and Queen Consort Camilla, will be in attendance at the upcoming Royal Ascot event, which is known for its glamorous blend of entertainment, fashion, and horse racing. As with any event within the Royal Enclosure, the strict dress code must be adhered to, with visitors, including members of the royal family, following the dress code requirements for either women or men. Women in the Royal Enclosure must wear dresses or skirts that cover the knee, while hats with a minimum diameter of approximately ten centimeters are mandatory. On the other hand, men are required to wear top hats with their morning coats, with black, gray, or navy blue suits, waistcoats, and ties. Only black, elegant shoes and socks covering the ankles are allowed for footwear. Gaining access to the Royal Enclosure is restricted to invited guests and requires sponsorship by two qualified members, with an admission fee of £100, and media reports suggesting meal prices start at around €1,700.
