Prince William - Royal thinks of Queen Elizabeth II at appointment
Prince William (41) made an appointment at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth on December 14. As part of a parade, he welcomed 202 cadets into the ranks of the Royal Navy following their training as junior officers, as reported by the BBC.
As "Commodore-in-Chief Submarines", he attended the event on behalf of King Charles III (75), according to People magazine. During a speech, despite his official role as Commander-in-Chief, he also spoke about his deceased grandparents.
This is where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip met
William said it was "a great honor" to represent his father. He knew how cold it could get on the parade ground and therefore wanted to be brief so that he could dismiss those present to the celebrations as quickly as possible. While his Passing Out Parade had taken place at Sandhurst, Britannia Royal Naval College "still has a very special place in my heart".
"It is well known that my grandmother and grandfather met here, while my great-grandfather, King George VI, carried out these very duties," William explained. The then 13-year-old Queen Elizabeth II(1926-2022) is said to have fallen in love with her future husband, Prince Philip (1921-2021), there. Philip was a cadet at Dartmouth at the time, and the two married in Westminster Abbey in November 1947 in front of 2,000 invited guests.
The royals also published impressions of the date on Instagram this Thursday. On the account of William and his wife, Princess Kate (41), he can be seen in uniform alongside numerous cadets. He congratulated them once again and explained that commitment, discipline and hard work had led them "to this milestone".
