- Royal residence details unveil plans for Pacific sailing journey
King Charles III, who's 75 years old, and Queen Camilla, aged 77, are all set to jet off to Australia and Samoa later in October. Buckingham Palace has officially disclosed the tour dates and itinerary, which will run from October 18 to October 26.
This adventure is set to be a first for Charles in many aspects. His journey to Australia will mark his debut as King to an international country, serving as its head of state. Moreover, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on October 21 in Samoa will be his inaugural attendance as the association's head.
Charles is reportedly in top form health-wise.
Upon landing in the Australian capital, Canberra, he'll be greeted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The royal pair will then head to Sydney's harbor to watch a naval parade. With a keen interest in the environment, Charles will also engage with firefighters to discuss the yearly bushfires.
Chats with skin cancer researchers are scheduled on the itinerary. Charles publicly declared his cancer diagnosis in February and temporarily retreated from public life. Lately, British media sources claimed, based on palace sources, that the king is currently in excellent health.
During their tour, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will also visit other significant locations in Australia. They plan to explore Uluru, an iconic landmark known as 'Ayers Rock'.
In Samoa, other than attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, they intend to pay respects at the Apia Cemetery, where many soldiers from the British Empire are buried.
