Kevin Costner - Role for son Hayes was "selfish"

Kevin Costner (69) announced that his son Hayes (15) will be part of the project "Horizon: An American Saga." Hayes has no acting experience, but Costner gave him the role of Nathaniel Kittredge in the first part of the four-part Western without an audition.

Kevin Costner wanted his son with him

The Hollywood star spoke about his son on the "Today" Show: "He's a wonderful boy, and he's calm. I didn't push my children into the business." The 69-year-old added: "I'm aware that there are so many young actors who would kill to be in this film. And I don't want to take those roles away from them just because I can bring my own children in." According to the actor, who also directs and produces "Horizon," Hayes' filming took only two weeks.

It was "a smaller role," said leading actor Kevin Costner. He revealed more about working with Hayes: "I wanted egoistically that he would be with me for a week, two weeks." The Oscar winner praised his son for his "really beautiful" performance in a "complicated scene" of the project. "He had little experience, but he's really wonderful in this film," said Kevin Costner. "That's what you want from a son."

Kevin Costner is the father of seven children

Kevin Costner has children Hayes and Cayden (17) and daughter Grace (14) with his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner (50), who filed for divorce in 2023. The actor is the father of seven children in total. His two daughters and a son were born between 1984 and 1988 from his first marriage to Cindy Costner (67). He also has a son born in 1996 from another relationship.

Kevin Costner was thrilled to have his son Hayes Costner join him in the project "Horizon: An American Saga," a four-part Western in which Hayes was cast as Nathaniel Kittredge. Among the many talented young actors waiting for their opportunities, Kevin decided to cast his own son, who had no acting experience, in the film without an audition.
