ratings - Roland Kaiser gives MDR good ratings
Kaiserwetter, Kaisermania, Kaiserquoten: The annual broadcast of the last of the four "Kaisermania" concerts on the Dresden Elbe riverbank has once again secured good viewing figures for MDR television. On average, 1.24 million viewers tuned in nationwide on Saturday from 8:15 PM to watch Roland Kaiser (72) sing - even with strong competition on TV, such as the ratings-grabbing Olympic broadcasts.
Kaiser brought the MDR "an average of 6.2 percent market share" over hours, DWDL.de reported on Sunday. "Incidentally, the 'Kaisermania' also achieved above-average results among the 14- to 49-year-olds. Here, 3.3 percent market share was generated."
In 2023, the "Kaisermania" broadcast reached nearly 1.8 million viewers - at the time, SWR television was also broadcasting in parallel. This time, only the MDR was involved. In 2022, an average of around 1.8 million viewers tuned in to MDR television.
What does the viewing figure describe?
After the live show from Dresden on Saturday, MDR showed more of the popular singer: "The 30 most beautiful hits of Roland Kaiser". This also brought good ratings for the channel.
The viewing figure describes the percentage of people who have turned on a show, measured against the total number of people watching TV at that time. Lower reach in absolute numbers (millions of viewers) can now mean higher ratings than in the past, as fewer people, for example, choose linear TV in the evenings.
For 20 years, Roland Kaiser ("Santa Maria", "Joana", "Dich zu lieben", "Why didn't you say no?") has been turning the Elbe riverbank in front of Dresden's famous Baroque backdrop into a Schlager party zone with his music every summer. The tickets for the concerts are very popular: The total of 50,000 tickets sold out "in just five minutes", the organizers announced in 2024.
The annual concert in Dresden attracted nearly 1.8 million viewers in 2023, with MDR being the sole broadcaster. Dresden, renowned for its Baroque architecture, hosts Roland Kaiser's popular Schlager concerts on the Elbe riverbank annually.
