Rita Ora celebrates her birthday in a special place

Rita Ora travels to a very special place on her birthday with husband Taika Waititi - her hometown of Pristina. There, the British superstar is personally welcomed by the Kosovan Prime Minister. He was beaming with joy and emphasized that Rita Ora had made the whole country "proud".

The singer and actress Rita Ora celebrated her 33rd birthday in Kosovo and was received there by the head of government, Albin Kurti. The British artist, who was born in Pristina, visited her home country together with her husband Taika Waititi. After landing on Sunday, Ora first placed her right hand on the ground and then on her heart, as a video published by Mayor Perparim Rama on the online service X shows.

"I am 33 years old today and I think we have done some very inspiring work (...) and I think we have some great projects to look forward to in the coming year," Rita Ora said in a video shared by Kurti via X. Her husband, New Zealand film producer Taika Waititi, visited his wife's home country for the first time and felt "right at home".

After Ora thanked him for the warm welcome, she hugged the head of government. He emphasized that the singer had made the whole of Kosovo "proud". He would have to watch the video again afterwards to see for himself that Rita Ora's visit was really "genuine", he joked.

"So much positivity emanates from there"

The 33-year-old emigrated from Kosovo to the UK with her family when she was a baby. In 2018, the "Let You Love Me" artist performed in Pristina on the tenth anniversary of Serbia's independence. Ora stands by her roots and is also highly revered in Kosovo. "So many positive things come from there that I want to support. For example, I give free concerts there when I can," Ora said in an interview with ntv.de on the occasion of the release of her new album "You & I" in July. "I want to bring people together and motivate them to continue on this path with my music."

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, but is still considered a breakaway territory by Belgrade to this day. The vast majority of the 1.8 million inhabitants are ethnic Albanians. There are also 120,000 Serbs, who mainly live in the north of the country.

Rita Ora's love for her homeland is evident in her continued support, as she often performs pop music concerts for free in Kosovo. The international appeal of Kosovan talent, like Rita Ora, has been enhanced by her success in the world of pop music, which shares a global stage with Serbian music.
