Richard Lugner is buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral
The death of Richard Lugner has stirred Austria. At the wish of his family, as many people as possible should have the opportunity to say goodbye to "Mörtel". Therefore, the burial of the 91-year-old will be a public event.
On August 12, Richard Lugner passed away at the age of 91. On August 31, "Mörtel" will find his final resting place on a cemetery near his villa in Vienna-Grinzing. The burial will take place in a family and friends circle, according to a report by the German Press Agency.
However, all mourners who do not belong to Lugner's closest circle will have the chance to pay their last respects to the enterprising builder at a memorial service. Lugner will be publicly displayed in the Vienna Stephansdom on the day of his burial at 9 am. "Everyone from Vienna, all of Austria, and beyond is invited to the memorial service in the Stephansdom to say goodbye together," his family told the news agency APA.
The public can already express their condolences. A condolence book has been placed in the "Lugner City", the shopping center built by "Mörtel", since Tuesday afternoon and will remain there for an indefinite period. An online condolence book is also available. In the cinema of "Lugner City", it is planned to show tribute messages on videos for free, APA reported.
Burial in a close family circle
After the farewell and public display in the Stephansdom, the coffin with the deceased will be driven around the Ringstraße on August 31. Lugner's last journey will also pass by "Lugner City". The public part of the funeral will end before a service for family and friends in the Kaasgraben church in Vienna-Döbling. Lugner's burial will then take place there in the closest family circle.
Richard Lugner died on Monday at the age of 91. He was also known internationally for the prominent guests he invited as his companion to the Vienna Opera Ball.
Despite the burial being held in a close family circle at the Kaasgraben church, everyone is welcome to attend the memorial service in Stefanodom to express their grief and pay their respects to Richard Lugner. The public display of his coffin in Stefanodom serves as an opportunity for many to bid farewell to the beloved figure.
