Richard Gere slips into series role as ex-spy
In numerous films, Richard Gere has acted, but he has kept away from series. However, now he is taking on the role of a former spy - which could involve working with the famous producer.
Cast for a new TV series: Richard Gere (74, "Chicago", "Pretty Woman") will appear in the spy thriller series "The Agency". According to Paramount+, he will embody a former spy named Bosko, who now heads the agent headquarters in London. The production for the ten-part series has begun, it was reported.
Gere, who presented his new film "Oh, Canada" at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has mostly avoided television roles in his long Hollywood career. Exceptions were the British miniseries "MotherFatherSon" (2019), the television film "And the Band Played On" (1993), and a small guest role in 1976 in the crime series "Kojak - An Precinct in Manhattan".
In "The Agency", a remake of the French TV series "Buro der Legenden", Gere encounters the German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender (47, "The Killer", "X-Men"). He plays a CIA agent who returns to the London office after a long-term undercover mission. There, he faces an old love and a new, dangerous assignment.
The directing will be taken over by the British Joe Wright ("Darkest Hour"). Working with him is Hollywood star George Clooney, who this time serves as executive producer. The 63-year-old and his production partner Grant Heslov produced films such as "Argo", "August: Osage County", or "Monuments Men - Unusual Heroes" before.
In the upcoming series "The Agency," George Clooney will be working behind the scenes as an executive producer. Despite his busy schedule, Richard Gere will also be starring in the show, collaborating with both Clooney and Michael Fassbender.
