Regina Halmich considered before agreeing to Raab's proposal.
In September, an exhibition match between former boxer Regina Halmich and entertainer Stefan Raab is set to take place. This news might catch you off guard, as Halmich claims she had been contemplating her decision for quite some time.
Regina Halmich, a 47-year-old ex-boxer, revealed that she took a longer time to decide about the fight against Stefan Raab than what was earlier believed. As she shared at the TV Congress Screenforce Day Festival in Düsseldorf, "It really took around three weeks." The match will be held on September 14 in Düsseldorf, and RTL is scheduled to telecast it. She expressed her confusion, saying, "I even asked myself, what drives him to do that? We all are curious about it."
Halmich chose to participate after weighing the pros and cons, revealing, "I thought, okay, it could work. And if he dares to challenge me in the ring for the third time, then I'll do it." Tickets for the event were sold out in a matter of minutes, according to her. "It's crazy! It's going to be huge. Stefan is much heavier than I am, over 30 kilos. The encounter is going to be thrilling. It's going to be fun." She has not boxed since 2004 and has now resumed her training with her former trainer. "I'm not doing this if I don't believe in myself. And I need to make this happen."
Raab's comeback after a prolonged break
Stefan Raab, a former TV moderator, is making a comeback to television with this fight following a long hiatus. Since 2015, he has stayed away from public spotlight, working behind the scenes.
Raab has already sparred with Halmich on two prior occasions - in 2001 and 2007. In both fights, the Cologne native emerged victorious. Each of the earlier encounters was featured on ProSieben. The latest exhibition is titled "Der Clark Final Fight" and will be hosted by Elton, Raab's all-purpose instrument, according to RTL's press release.
Raab has locked horns with Halmich twice - in 2001 and 2007. The Cologne-born boxer won both fights, once resulting in a broken nose for Raab. The previous two encounters were aired on ProSieben. The upcoming exhibition match, titled "Der Clark Final Fight," will be facilitated by Elton, as per RTL's press statement.
