Recall of dried char strips due to potential bacteria contamination.
Because of a Listeria risk, a vendor has issued a recall on smoked and salted salmon slices. Specifically, 750-gram packages having the batch number 24121 and an expiration date of November 16, 2024 are being affected. The company Ulan GmbH based in Philippsburg, near Karlsruhe made the announcement. The elimination of Listeria monocytogenes exposure is unfeasible.
Listeria exposure results in symptoms like fever and diarrhea that turn up within two weeks. For vulnerable individuals such as pregnant women, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, more severe outcomes like sepsis and meningitis are possible. In pregnant women, an infected child may not exhibit symptoms while still being harmed. As a result, anyone in this group who's eaten the product should seek medical attention, but "it's not significant for those who are asymptomatic," a warning states.

Due to concerns about cross-contamination, the Manufacturing and Hygiene Division (MHD) has advised against consuming dried char strips, particularly those not properly stored or cooked, as they may pose a danger of bacteria growth, including Listeria. Despite the ongoing recall of smoked salmon slices, it's essential to remain vigilant with food safety practices to mitigate risks.
