Event Organizers Cancel All Three Scheduled Taylor Swift Concerts in Vienna

The organizers of Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna have canceled all three planned shows on the eve of the first event. The reason given was a suspected planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium. "We had no other choice," stated Barracuda Music, the event organizer, on their website.

Taylor Swift: Reactions to Concert Cancellation

The shocking news has caused a stir online, not just among disappointed fans who had been waiting for the concert for a long time. "Attacking a Taylor Swift concert means targeting women and girls. Again. The connection between terrorism and male violence must be made," wrote "Daily Telegraph" journalist Suzanne Moore on X. Moore is not the only one drawing the connection to misogyny. "You can't tell me that femicide and misogyny aren't epidemics. Three little girls were killed at a dance class. Concerts were canceled due to terrorist threats. I'm absolutely appalled by the lack of responsibility of the media in radicalizing young men," wrote one user.

She is referring to the recent knife attack in English Southport where a young man killed three children and injured several others. "It's no coincidence that three girls were murdered at a Taylor Swift event and nine days later her concert is attacked. If you believe that, you're incredibly naive about the rise of misogynistic hate crimes and the online radicalized men who commit them," commented one user.

"This attack on Taylor Swift events is primarily planned to specifically target and harm women. We need to talk about how both suspects were boys under 20 years old and how the younger generation of boys is violently misogynistic. What we won't do is blame Taylor or Islam," wrote an X user.

Misogyny

Swift's concerts are known for being a safe space for girls and women. Fans have recently reported a generally peaceful atmosphere. At Swift's concerts, the mostly female fans can express themselves as they are and want to be. The most important value: tolerance.

"I feel sick seeing people intentionally trying to destroy spaces where people, especially women, feel safe, happy, and free to just be themselves because they have a deep-seated misogynistic hatred for Taylor Swift," wrote one user on X. Other fans argue there that it's now easy to understand why Swift usually keeps her political statements to herself. "THIS is why Taylor Swift hasn't spoken out politically. Over 150 international shows where millions of lives are at stake," commented one user.

Men and boys were among those who expressed their disappointment and concern following the cancellation of the Taylor Swift concerts due to suspected terrorist threats.
