Former Formula-1 driver Ralf Schumacher (49) and his partner Étienne have been delighted by the many wonderful, worldwide reactions to their romantic Instagram post, as a family spokesperson told the German Press Agency in response to inquiries.

Schumacher had shown himself in an Instagram post, arm in arm with a man, publicly coming out as gay. The best thing in life is to have the right partner by your side, with whom you can share everything, wrote Michael Schumacher's brother.

Son David: "I stand 100% behind you"

The photo shows the two men in profile, looking out at the sea from a boat. The sun paints the sky red-yellow. Thousands marked the post on Sunday evening with "Liked."

Schumacher's son David (22) wrote to the photo: "I'm very happy that you've finally found someone who really makes you feel good and secure, regardless of whether man or woman, I stand 100% behind you Papa and wish you all the best and heartfelt congratulations."

A family spokesperson added: "Ralf Schumacher's family considers private life to be of the highest priority and remains a private matter. Neither Étienne, nor Ralf and his son David will make further comments on this matter at the moment. We kindly ask for respect for everyone's private sphere."

Heart emojis from TV colleagues

Schumacher was also previously a successful racing driver himself. He started in 180 Formula-1 races, six of which he finished as the winner. Later, he became involved in junior racing series as a team manager and helped foster his son David's career. Ralf Schumacher was married to Cora Schumacher for many years, the pair have been separated since.

The former Formula-1 driver has been working regularly as a TV expert for the pay-TV broadcaster Sky since 2019 and accompanies the Formula-1 royal class on its world tour every year.
