Indian Billionaire - Prunk, Protz, Promigaste: Son of the richest man in Asia holds extravagant wedding

Anant Ambani, son of Asia's richest man, marries his long-term girlfriend Radhika Merchant this weekend. The wedding celebrations are reaching unprecedented dimensions, with reports suggesting that the couple and their guests have invested over $600 million USD since March to keep themselves entertained. Over 1200 guests are expected to attend, according to "Independent". Many prominent figures from business, politics, and society have RSVPed.

Menu or buffet? Solo entertainer or music from the band? Such mundane questions from other would-be brides and grooms hold no sway for Anant Ambani and his future spouse. After all, Anant is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Indian multinational Reliance Industries. Ambani senior is said to have a fortune of over $113 billion USD. Radhika Merchant is also from a wealthy background: she is the daughter of pharmaceutical magnate Viren Merchant, and, like Anant, is employed in her father's company.

Beckham, Clinton, and the Kardashians head to India

The guest list for the multi-day celebration at the firm's "Jio World Centre" in Mumbai is long and expensive. Politicians like former Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair and former First Lady Hillary Clinton have RSVPed, along with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the Kardashian sisters Kim and Khloé. Sport legends Miky Tyson and David Beckham, as well as singer Adele, are also in attendance. The dress code for the wedding on Friday was "traditionally Indian." For the well-being of the 1200 guests, the Ambanis are providing 2500 different dishes over the weekend. They have also gone the extra mile in terms of competition: Asia's second richest man, Gautam Adani, received an invitation along with gifts worth €6500.

The festivities began on Friday evening with the wedding ceremony, the "Shubh Vivaah." This is followed by the ceremony of divine blessings on Saturday, and the reception on Sunday. However, the wedding weekend is just a fraction of the entire wedding marathon. In March, the bride and groom invited Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Ivanka Trump, and leading politicians from around the world to Jamnagar, Ambani's hometown. For the event, the Ambanis had a glass palace built, in which Rihanna performed afterwards.

Cruise ship hassle and Justin Bieber

The second pre-party took place with a four-day sea voyage on a cruise ship with 800 guests between Italy and France. The Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry, and Andrea Bocelli provided the varied and loud onboard entertainment – much to the chagrin of other tourists in the Portofino bay. The third part of the party trilogy began last weekend. With the traditional Sangeet ceremony, family and friends of the bride and groom came together to prepare for the wedding. Justin Bieber flew in for a reported $10 million USD private gig, where he sang hits like "Love Yourself."

No pompous peak of the most extravagant and expensive wedding in history has begun yet. For the 1200 guests, numerous private jets are available for arrival and departure. Indian top designer Manish Malhotra takes care of the look of the entire event as the wedding designer. The party locations are designed "so that guests immerse themselves in an atmosphere of joy, love, and celebration." The bride and groom are wished that amidst all the chaos, they find some time for themselves and that mutual love remains the focus.
