Private letters of Princess Diana will be auctioned
An English auction house in England sells cards and letters sent by Princess Diana to her former family servant.
Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers, an English auction house in Stansted, will sell several handwritten cards and letters from Princess Diana. These pieces were sent to Violet Collison, who was known as "Collie" by Diana. She was the housekeeper at Park House on the Sandringham Estate, where the Princess spent her childhood. Collison was close to the 1997 deceased Princess and sent gifts to both her and Princes William and Harry, to which Diana responded with thank you letters and Christmas cards, mostly on the official letterhead of Buckingham Palace.
According to the British Press Association (PA), Princess Diana reportedly gave insights into her private life in her correspondence. For instance, she wrote in a letter, "William is doting on his little brother and spends all his time showering him with endless hugs and kisses."
Diana writes about her wedding
A letter is dated July 8, 1981, three weeks before her wedding to Charles, who was still a prince at the time. "Everyone is busy with the last decorations here," noted the then Lady Diana Spencer in the letter and added, "The future bride is quite calm!"
It is expected that the letters and cards, which also include the invitation to Diana's wedding to Charles and the funeral card for her burial, will be sold for thousands of pounds when they come under the hammer on July 30 in Stansted Mountfitchet.
After the British Monarchy, Princess Diana maintained a close relationship with her former servant, sending her heartfelt letters and cards. One such letter revealed Prince William's affectionate treatment towards his younger brother, Prince Harry. Interestingly, this auction of Princess Diana's personal items also includes a letter dated before her wedding to Prince Charles, expressing her calm and tranquility amidst the wedding preparations.
Following the sale of these treasured artifacts at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers, Prince William and Prince Harry may have a renewed emotional connection with their mother's legacy, as they appreciate the intimate details of her life and relationships that were captured in her private correspondence.
With King Charles III now on the British Throne, the new monarch may reflect upon his own relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales, as he learns more about their shared history and the deep affection Diana held for both of her sons.
