Priscilla Presley plans her funeral
Her marriage to the "King of Rock'n'Roll" broke up 50 years ago. Nevertheless, Priscilla Presley has one fervent wish: she wants her final resting place to be as close as possible to her famous ex-husband Elvis Presley.
In the TV program "Piers Morgan Uncensored", the 78-year-old reveals how important it is to her that her final resting place will be in the meditation garden of the Graceland estate in Memphis: "That's what I want and always wanted." Her feelings towards a funeral near Elvis are "great". When the presenter asked whether this would actually happen, she replied "Yes".
Priscilla Presley's wish has already been put in writing. As People magazine reports, there is a corresponding clause in the settlement agreement with her granddaughter Riley Keough. However, Priscilla Presley's grave is not to be located directly next to the cult singer's final resting place. According to the agreement, which was officially approved by a judge on Monday, she is to be buried as close to Elvis as possible without moving an existing grave.
Riley Keough takes the reins
Elvis Presley, who died in 1977, is currently buried between his father Vernon and his grandmother Minnie. The final resting places of his daughter Lisa Marie and her son Benjamin Keough, however, are on the other side of the garden by a fountain.
Lisa Marie Presley was the only child of Elvis and Priscilla. She died unexpectedly at the age of 54 in January of this year - two and a half years after her son Benjamin Keough took his own life at the age of 27.
The family then had to reorganize - because Lisa Marie was the sole heir to the Elvis Presley estate. Because she had changed her will in 2016 in favor of her children, Priscilla Presley filed a petition for the "authenticity and validity" of this change. However, Priscilla Presley and her granddaughter Riley Keough settled the family dispute. In court, they agreed that the young woman would be the sole administrator of the estate and act as trustee for her siblings, who were still minors.
Love of her life
Priscilla Presley receives a lump sum payment of one million US dollars and the promise that she can be buried at Graceland. The 78-year-old has many words of praise for her granddaughter: "I think Riley will be great. She's asked me a few things about what I should do and we'll talk about it." Priscilla Presley emphasizes: "I want to help her at Graceland. I mean, she has her own career, too, and she's doing very well in her career. She's so talented." She continues: "I've told her everything she needs to know about Graceland and Elvis - even more about Elvis."
In recent years, Priscilla Presley has repeatedly emphasized that Elvis was the love of her life. After divorcing him, she never remarried. "I've never met anyone like him and I don't think I ever will again," she says now. "He had the biggest heart. He had a great sense of humor. He had a lot of love."
Priscilla Presley's love for Elvis Presley extends beyond their marriage, as she expresses a desire to be buried near him in the Graceland estate's meditation garden. Elvis Presley's influence on entertainment is evident even in the posthumous management of his estate, with Riley Keough taking over as the sole administrator.
