Princess Diana's clothes auctioned off for several million

In Los Angeles are coming Clothing items of the 1997 deceased Princess Diana up for auction. The evening gowns, hats, and letters are being sold for over five million Euro in total.

Numerous robes of Princess Diana and other memorabilia were sold in Los Angeles for 5.5 million US-Dollars (around 5.1 million Euro). According to the auction house Julien's, bids came in from thousands of buyers worldwide. It was the largest collection of Diana memorabilia since a historic charity auction in the year 1997 with dozens of the Princess's dresses, shortly before her death. The mother of the British Princes William and Harry had passed away in Paris on the night of August 31, 1997, at the age of 36, in a car accident.

Items up for auction in California included clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, gloves, photos, and letters from her possession. The most expensive piece was a floor-length evening gown made of silk and sequins, which Diana wore at events in London and Hamburg in 1987, according to Julien's. The creation of fashion designer Victor Edelstein fetched over 900,000 US-Dollars. It was previously estimated at 200,000 US-Dollars.

A shoulder-less, dark blue, and star-embellished dress by designer Murray Arbeid sold for 780,000 US-Dollars, almost four times its estimated price. A black velvet dress designed by Catherine Walker was sold for over 570,000 US-Dollars.

Green pumps with jewels, which Diana wore at a reception in London in 1993, fetched a sensational 390,000 US-Dollars at auction. The elegant shoes were previously estimated at 2,000 US-Dollars.

According to Julien's, 15 items were bought by Renae Plant, who runs the Princess Diana Museum in Los Angeles and is one of the largest collectors of Diana memorabilia. A portion of the auction proceeds will reportedly go to charitable causes.

The auction in Los Angeles attracted interest from buyers globally, exceeding the five million Euro estimate for Princess Diana's clothing items and memorabilia. Her distinctive blue dress, embellished with stars, fetched over 780,000 US-Dollars at the entertainment-filled event in California.
