Prince William probably won't make it to the semi-finals

When England plays against the Netherlands today, Prince William is unlikely to be at the Dortmunder Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, Germany, cheering for the English National Team with his royal approval. Support from the Palace comes instead from afar in London.

The English football national team reportedly had to do without royal support on the spot in the EM 2024 semi-finals against the Netherlands. According to the British magazine "Hello!", Prince William will not be present live at the Dortmunder Westfalenstadion on tonight's Wednesday evening. The passionate football fan and President of the English Football Association FA is said to have other commitments in his calendar.

In the quarterfinals in Düsseldorf on July 5, the British heir to the throne had cheered on the "Three Lions" from the tribune as they secured their place in the semi-finals with a 5:3 penalty shootout victory against Switzerland after a 1:1 draw. The Thronfolger was also present live for England's group game against Denmark.

If England wins tonight against the Netherlands, the team would face the Spaniards in the European Championship final on Sunday in Berlin. There, the team would meet the Spaniards, who dominated France in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening with a 2:1 score.

Is football finally coming home?

The team led by National Coach Gareth Southgate does not have to do without royal support entirely. The Palace sent a musical greeting from London to the team on Wednesday morning. A video was posted on the official Social Media Accounts of the Royal Family, in which the guard at Buckingham Palace plays the famous English football hit "Three Lions" on brass instruments. "We wish England good luck for tonight's game," the Royals write on X and Instagram.

The song was originally released in connection with the European Football Championship 1996 in England by the band The Lightning Seeds and has since become a popular stadium classic in England, thanks to the text line "Football's coming home" (in German: "Fußball kommt nach Hause").

Prince William, being a avid soccer fan and the President of the English Football Association FA, might find himself celebrating England's potential victory against the Netherlands in England, as his commitments might not allow him to attend the game at the Dortmunder Westfalenstadion. The British Royal Family has shown their support for the English National Team, even from afar, with a musical greeting sent via social media, featuring the popular soccer anthem "Three Lions." Despite his absence from the Netherlands match, Prince William had previously cheered on England during the quarterfinals in Düsseldorf, witnessing their thrilling penalty shootout victory against Switzerland.
