Prince Harry continues to fight for police protection
Prince Harry, who has emigrated to the USA, insists on police protection when traveling to the UK, but is denied this by a committee of the British Home Office. The renegade royal feels he has been treated unfairly and is now taking the matter to court again
Prince Harry continues to fight against the British Home Office's refusal to grant him police protection during visits to his home country. According to British media reports, the trial begins today in which Harry's lawyers are challenging the landmark decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) from 2020.
In May of this year, Harry suffered a defeat at the High Court in London. Accordingly, he is not entitled to police protection in the UK even if he were to pay for it out of his own pocket. However, the court had granted him the right to have Ravec's decision reviewed.
Decision "unfair"?
But the current trial is about more fundamental matters. Harry's lawyers are questioning whether the Ravec's decision three years ago was fair. They argue that the royal family may have had a hand in it, wanting to get one over on the renegade prince, who had moved to the USA with his wife Meghan.
Edward Young was a member of the Ravec at the time. At the time, however, he was also the private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, after which he held this position with Harry's father, King Charles III. Today he is retired. As there are "significant tensions" between Harry and the royal family, according to his lawyers, Ravec's decision was biased and "unfair" due to Young's influence. The hearing is scheduled to last three days. It is not yet clear whether Harry will appear in court in person.
