Attempt on Slovakian PM Fico's Life at a Cabinet Meeting in Handlova

A shocking incident took place during a cabinet meeting in the town of Handlova, where Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot while leaving the venue. The 59-year-old politician was rushed to the hospital with injuries.

As per the Slovakian news agency TASR, which cites the deputy leader of Fico's party, Lubos Blaha, several shots were heard, and the attacker was arrested. The details of the incident are still murky.

The emergency services reported that a helicopter carrying an emergency doctor was sent to Fico after the incident. However, the rescue service officials chose not to comment on his health status as the operation was still in progress. The police evacuated the House of Culture, where the meeting had been held.

Recently, Fico blamed the liberal opposition for creating a hostile environment against the government. It's possible that this hostile climate could have led to violent attacks, he had warned.

Fico's response by Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova was strong, as she condemned the "brutal and heartless attack" against the prime minister. The hospital management in Handlova informed that he was being transferred to the capital city Bratislava.

As per a report by news portal Aktuality, the attack was an assassination attempt. It was said that the shots were fired as Fico was about to shake hands with a small gathering of people on the street. The Slovakian newspaper "Pravda," quoting eyewitnesses, reported that four to five shots were fired, with one hitting the prime minister in the chest.

The investigative newspaper "Dennik N," relying on multiple sources, revealed that Fico suffered serious injuries but they were not life-threatening. The report added that he had injuries on his abdomen, as well as his arms and legs.
