Gallery "Camera Work" - "Pretty Woman" and wild animals: exhibition shows works by photographer David Yarrow
Scottish photographer David Yarrow's career began with one of the most famous photos in sports history: in 1986, he photographed Diego Maradona after the final of the World Cup in Mexico. Argentina had just won the title and Maradona was lifting the trophy as captain. Yarrow took the picture for the British newspaper "The Times".
"I still remember that day like it was yesterday," the 57-year-old wrote on his website about the picture. "I was lucky enough to capture this one moment in the utter chaos after the trophy presentation, as 5,000 Argentinian fans ran between the players and the press. Maradona, sitting high on the Argentine shoulders, looked straight at me - arms raised high, trophy in his right hand. At that time, as a 20-year-old, I didn't know I had a photo that would last through the ages."
After this iconic shot, Yarrow went on to work at the Olympic Games and other sporting events. Today, he is one of the most renowned photographers in the world, his works fetch top prices at auction and are exhibited in leading galleries. His large-format animal portraits and shots of supermodels such as Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne and Alessandra Ambrosio are particularly well-known.
The Berlin gallery "Camera Work " is now showing 25 monumental works by the artist, most of which were created in 2023 and are being presented together for the first time. The "Storytelling" exhibition runs until January 6, 2024.
