Present-day life of Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles.
The "Pop Icon's" faithful companion, Bubbles, had been at his side for close to two decades. Following Michael Jackson's demise, a staggering 15 years ago, Bubbles retired in comfort. Today, he's 41 years old and weighs an impressive 182.5 pounds - that's Bubbles, the late pop icon's monkey, for those unaware. TMZ, a popular American news platform, has been checking up on him since his famous master's passing.
Bubbles found his new home at the "Center for Great Apes" in Florida back in 2005. After MJ could no longer manage housing an adult primate, Bubbles moved there, where he's lived a near-perfect life ever since.
As per the center's director, Bubbles has plenty of space to roam, exploring the expansive network of tunnels or constructing himself a cozy nest. He takes a daily siesta for his midday break and occasionally picks up a brush for a painting session. Like other apes here, he gets to listen to Michael Jackson's music and videos, but Bubbles shows no particular interest in them when compared to other music.
It's reported that his annual care costs about $30,000. Sources say that Jackson's estate foots the bill for Bubbles' accommodation and care. Plus, Jackson's fans often send him treats such as coconuts, mangoes, or blankets, which Bubbles stores away during his naps.
No Evidence of Abuse
Reports of violence against Bubbles during his time with Jackson can't be verified by the staff here. Bubbles shows no signs of previous mistreatment.
Bubbles was purchased as a baby monkey from a Hollywood animal trainer. MJ offered him a place to live and treated him like he was his closest friend. Bubbles joined him in various TV shows, movies, and music videos. At the age of 4, Bubbles accompanied the extraordinary artist on a promotional trip to Japan. The average lifespan of chimpanzees in captivity is between 50 and 60 years.
