With a significant police presence, two individuals were arrested in Austria on suspicion of terrorism. They were allegedly planning attacks at upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, according to Franz Ruf, Director General of Public Security in the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. The concerts are scheduled from Thursday to Saturday.

A 19-year-old Austrian had chemical substances seized from him. As a precaution due to fears of explosives, police had evacuated houses and a part of a retirement home.

Increased Security Measures for Taylor Swift Concerts

The young man had radicalized himself on the internet and had taken a pledge of allegiance to the leader of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) a few weeks ago, said Ruf.

He was arrested in the morning in Ternitz, 75 kilometers southwest of Vienna. A second person was arrested in the afternoon in Vienna. Police did not provide further details.

Stricter controls will be carried out at the Taylor Swift concerts, announced Gerhard Pürstl, President of the Vienna Police. He told the Austrian medium "Standard" that the danger was "minimized". Visitors should arrive at the Ernst Happel Stadium about an hour earlier.
