Police respond to incident involving sodium azide in Murnau

A 47-year-old individual falls unconscious at a vocational institute in Penzberg. In his possession was a small vial containing a powdery, white substance. The nature of the substance is unknown, leading to a massive intervention. The mystery surrounding the substance has now been solved.

Police have revealed that the material that sparked an extensive law enforcement response at the Murnau Accident Hospital in Upper Bavaria was sodium azide. Medical Director Fabian Stuby states that ingesting even a small amount of this compound can result in death.

A 47-year-old man underwent treatment at the hospital after passing out at a vocational school in Penzberg. The police suspect that the man, who was also a nursing school student, "employed the location as a means to take his own life", reported Andreas Nieß, the head of operations.

Several of the school's other pupils exhibited symptoms such as breathing issues, with two being hospitalized for mild symptoms. However, according to the police, there was no danger to these individuals. Medical Director Stuby adds that none of the medical staff experienced any symptoms.
