- Police are increasing their force in the hunt for rasters
Drivers be prepared for increased speed checks in several federal states by the weekend. According to the ADAC, from Monday to Sunday, checks will focus on accident-prone sections and areas with heightened risk, such as schools. However, Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland will not participate in this action.
The goal of this week-long campaign, also known as the "Blitzermarathon," is to raise awareness among all road users about the dangers of traffic, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia said. Excessive speeds and failing to adjust speed, for instance, during heavy rain, remain a major cause of accidents. Police officers will also pay close attention to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
This action is part of a European traffic police network that has coordinated this effort.
"Blitzermarathon" lasts the entire week
Unlike a similar action in April, there will not be a specific "blitzer day," the ADAC reports. Checks will be distributed evenly throughout the week.
In Saxony-Anhalt, where schools reopen on Monday, as in Lower Saxony, Saxony, and Bremen, police will also increase checks. The Ministry of the Interior plans targeted actions during the campaign to ensure safety. In recent months, there have been several days of increased checks. Police officers will pay particular attention to distractions, excessive speeds, or technical defects in vehicles.
Despite Germany not participating in speed checks in Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland, other federal states like North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt are actively participating in the European-wide "Blitzermarathon." This week-long campaign aims to maintain road safety, targeting issues such as excessive speeds and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
