"tough but fair" - Plasberg shoots against successor Klamroth
After more than two decades, Frank Plasberg (66) hosted his show "hart aber fair" for the last time last year. His successor Louis Klamroth (34) bid him farewell in November 2022, saying that Plasberg had led the political talk show "very impressively" for 22 years. However, the long-standing presenter is clearly not as impressed with his younger colleague today.
In an interview with the media magazine "DWDL ", Plasberg begins by saying that his departure from "hart aber fair" came at the "right time" for him. He had "done really well" over the past year and it was wonderful that the "background noise from Monday to Monday" was gone. At the same time, however, he also misses "this wonderful team that I worked with for so long and which is now unfortunately falling apart".
Things are tough behind the scenes
Plasberg is obviously alluding to the fact that he and Jürgen Schulte will no longer be producing the political talk show with their company Ansager & Schnipselmann. It is "tough that we are losing the production contract after 23 years", explains Schulte. The company learned of WDR's decision in May. Klamroth had terminated the collaboration with their company and had never spoken to him or Plasberg about it: "He went to WDR. WDR informed us." In future, a newly founded company, of which Klamroth was a co-partner, would produce the show.
"I swore I wouldn't shout after my successor," Plasberg replies fairly when asked whether he is personally disappointed. "That has worked out very well so far, although I'm finding it increasingly difficult," the presenter explains. There was hardly any contact with Klamroth after Plasberg's last show. They had "maybe spoken once or twice before we realized: He wants the break".
Plasberg is particularly bothered by "the manner"
But then he chooses somewhat harsher words. "For me personally, the departure was a wonderful success, but unfortunately not for the company," Plasberg states. "I had to be 66 years old to get to know such a superficially friendly person with such an approach." Although he could understand Klamroth, he said it was "different whether you have to create something new from scratch or whether you leave behind a perfect team that has carried this format and that has prepared itself for a joint renewal and further development [...] in this way".
Meanwhile, Schulte and Plasberg are not angry with the broadcaster. "It's clear that contracts are finite. That's the deal. [...] That's completely fair," says the presenter. What is annoying, however, is "the way" in which everything happened.
The next edition of "hart aber fair" will be broadcast on December 11 at 9 p.m. on Ersten. It will be the last time that the Ansager & Schnipselmann team is behind the talk format. According to Schulte, they now want to "bring the whole thing to a proper conclusion. We owe it to ourselves, to ARD and not least to the viewers who have tuned in for 23 years."
