Pipeline rupture causes widespread flooding in Berlin.

A water pipe burst and extensive flooding occurred in the Berlin neighborhood of Neukölln, necessitating the evacuation of multiple homes. On Tuesday morning, a water pipe under Sonnenallee sidewalk burst suddenly, spraying out water with great force, as an AFP news agency fire department representative explained.

Although the water companies assisted in containing the flow, the streets were flooded, cellars, and numerous surrounding building facades were also filled with water. The affected pipe measures 40 centimeters in diameter, according to the water companies.

Inhabitants of several properties were required to vacate their homes or were evacuated by the fire department, the representative confirmed. Multiple residential areas were impacted considerably. As of yet, it's unclear how many people have been affected. Temporary lodging was readily provided through provided buses. The return to one's home remains uncertain.

To ensure the safety of the structures, the building control authority needs to examine if the buildings are at risk of collapsing. Gas, water, and electricity were switched off in numerous areas as precautionary measures. The water on the streets was gone by Tuesday morning, but significant amounts of sand and mud lingered. The intersection remained shut down for the moment.
