Penelope Frego wants to remove the taboo on nudity
Television viewers know her from "Soko" and "Unter uns". The cinema audience saw her in "Girl You Know It's True". And now, everyone gets to see her again from a completely different angle: Actress Penelope Frego poses for "Playboy".
Yes, in "Playboy" we are definitely all "Under one roof"?! Did the actress Penelope Frego, who is also known from the same-named RTL series, think about this when she decided to strip down for the August issue of the men's magazine? No, quite the opposite. The 31-year-old wants to contribute to normalizing female nudity with her bare-all appearance. That's what she says in the "Playboy" interview.
"Nudity is taken for granted in men, but in women it is much quicker to be tabooed, and I want to free it from that," so Frego. "If I associate a message with my images, then it is exactly that: the de-stigmatization of the female body."
Furthermore, Frego says: "Of course there have been progress in recent years. Being naked at the beach and going into the water is something wonderful." And exactly that is what the actress does: On the cover of the magazine, she is seen hulless and with wet hair at the beach in the water.
Being naked is no problem for her in front of the camera, explains Frego. What one has in a role or not, after all, doesn't always say something about the intimacy of the portrayal. "I had already had kissing scenes or situations where it was about certain emotions that were closer to me than naked scenes."
With her images, she also wants to stand for naturalness, continues Frego. Although she admits that "I had a lot of fun making myself up," appearing in a beauty documentary was not something she had considered before. "Because I believe that most interventions make you dependent, and I don't want that feeling." Even a manicure would be a form of dependency for the actress.
Frego was born in Bozen in 1992. She studied acting at a Cologne acting school and made her first appearance in front of the camera in 2017. She was seen, among other things, in "Soko Cologne". Since October 2023, she has been playing the role of Bettina Körner, the daughter of a judge, in the RTL series "Unter uns". Recently, she was also seen in a supporting role in the cinema film "Girl You Know It's True" about the scandal story of the pop duo Milli Vanilli.
The Italian native speaker adapted herself to an accent-free German in her acting training: "Because I didn't want to be limited to roles with an Italian accent," she explains. Being cast for a completely German role in "Unter uns" was therefore a particularly "beautiful sign" for her.
In the August issue of "Playboy," Penelope Frego poses in a bid to normalize female nudity, using the medium to share her message of body positivity. Moreover, RTL viewers can catch Penelope Frego again, as she continues to make appearances on the television channel, including her role in the series "Unter uns."
