Pazderski departs from AfD feeling let down
Georg Pazderski, who was the head of Berlin's AfD for several years and later became the leader of the parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, has decided to leave the party. The 72-year-old, who was also a colonel in the general staff, made this announcement on request.
He shared with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung his reasons for leaving, saying that the AfD had gradually drifted away from the political beliefs he initially stood for. Pazderski expressed his disappointment at how many of the "values and positions of the founders" had been diluted or even perverted.
The former Berlin AfD state chairman still believes that Germany needs an alternative to the old parties. He regrets that the AfD hasn't been successful in filling this role. After serving in various positions in the party for more than a decade, Pazderski is now independent again.
Pazderski started his career in the German military and, from 2016 to 2020, he held the position of state chairman of the Berlin AfD. He also served as a member of the House of Representatives and group leader in the parliamentary group until 2021. From 2017 to 2019, he was one of three deputy federal spokespersons for the AfD.

Pazderski's decision to leave the AfD, despite his former positions in the German Armed Forces and as the Berlin AfD state chairman, was influenced by his perception that the party had strayed from its original political beliefs. Despite his departure, Pazderski still believes that the German Armed Forces and other parties could benefit from the AfD's presence in Berlin, as an alternative voice in German politics.
