Patients can now utilize the clinic atlas.
A new government-run website is designed to assist individuals in locating the most suitable medical facility for their needs. It's specifically helpful for people who are ready to undergo surgery; they can now discover how frequently a specific surgery has been performed in the past. In the near future, more details, such as complication rates, will be provided.
A second website comparing hospital services and treatment quality in Germany has been released by the government. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach of the SPD explained that it aims to guide patients through the complex hospital system. He added, "In just a few clicks, they can compare hospitals and determine the top hospital in their area for the care they require."
A speedometer-style display will be used to showcase the number of cases handled for a given procedure and the staffing levels for each hospital position. The portal displays hospitals on a map and plans to include more data.
The Ministry has unveiled the first batch of data, including the number of beds, the number of cases per specialist department and per treatment event, nursing staff at each location, and certain certificates. Further data on complication rates, will be included later in the year.
The goal of the hospital atlas is to enhance a significant reform that is introducing fundamental changes to financing and unified quality standards. The hospital industry has also introduced its own online directory, the "German Hospital Directory," available since 2002 and now offering improved search options.
