Over 10,000 migrants have made their way to the UK via the English Channel.

Over 10,000 migrants have made their way from France to England via the English Channel so far this year, smashing past previous records. A total of five boats were reported to have reached the southern coast of England on a single day, Friday, carrying 288 individuals. This brings the grand total to 10,170 individuals who have braved this perilous journey since the year's start, a staggering 35% increase from the same period in the past. Many of these migrants hail from Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey.

With the parliamentary election fast approaching on July 4th, migration policy has become a key concern for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Conservative government. At the end of April, the British Parliament rubber-stamped a contentious plan to relocate migrants to Rwanda. This ruling allows for the relocation of undocumented migrants to Rwanda without considering their background or asylum applications. The tiny African nation has been designated as a "safe third country."

The government views this deportation legislation as a preventative measure and plans to remove a staggering 5,700 people from the UK to Rwanda by year's end. However, Sunak notably announced that the parliamentary election would be held on July 4th, a date which will likely see minimal progress in enacting this controversial plan. The opposition Labour Party, currently surging in the polls, vows to abolish the law if elected.

The record number of migrants crossing the English Channel this year, mainly from Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey, has put migration policy at the forefront of discussions in Great Britain, particularly ahead of the parliamentary election on July 4th. Despite the Conservative government's plan to deport 5,700 undocumented migrants to Rwanda, identified as a "safe third country," the opposition Labour Party has vowed to abolish this controversial policy if elected. This mass migration via the English Channel has shown no signs of slowing down, with more migrants continuing to venture on this dangerous journey.
