Hungary: Country under Spotlight for Questionable Rhetoric and Policies - Orban praises European right-wing parties as promoters of peace.

During the European elections campaign, Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, lauded right-wing parties as the key to ending Russia's conflict against Ukraine quickly. With the increasing influence of right-wing and right-wing populist parties in Europe, as well as the potential victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, these forces would create a "transatlantic peace coalition." Orban made this statement on a Saturday rally in Budapest, attended by over 10,000 supporters.

Orban has been the incumbent prime minister since 2010 and has made Hungary one of the most pro-Moscow countries in the EU. He has frequently blocked or weakened EU sanctions against warring Russia, using veto threats. This has left Hungary an isolated country within the EU.

Orban called for an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations in the Russia-initiated war. If not, he warned of a possible Third World War and the destruction of Hungary. In Brussels, the EU headquarters, Orban claims that a "war camp" is dictating that the Western world should wage war against Russia. The driving force behind this, according to Orban, is American philanthropist George Soros, who supports civil society actors worldwide. Soros, as Orban alleges, has been working "for 30 years" to drag the West into a war with Russia, intending to replace the millions of war casualties with "migrants" in the aftermath. However, this is a conspiracy theory, as there are no documented plans from Soros suggesting such a plan.

Fidesz, Orban's ruling party, is expected to win the upcoming European elections on June 9. It is uncertain, though, how much the new Tisza party of former Fidesz insider and Orban challenger Peter Magyar can draw votes and seats away from Fidesz.
