In Beverly Hills - Oprah Winfrey shines in a purple gown

Oprah Winfrey (69) did not miss the premiere of the remake of "The Color Purple" in Beverly Hills on Wednesday evening. The talk show host and actress starred in the 1985 film of the same name directed by Steven Spielberg (76) and was even nominated for an Oscar. Winfrey worked with Spielberg on the production team for the remake and the duo appeared together at the film premiere. However, Winfrey's appearance with the star director was not the only reason she attracted attention that evening.

The 69-year-old wore a purple gown that drew attention to her narrow waist with its form-fitting cut. She paired the floor-length dress with long sleeves, a small train and short slit with a glittering clutch and shimmering earrings. She had styled her voluminous hair into loose waves.

Oprah Winfrey on her battle with weight

Last September, Winfrey spoke about her experiences with weight fluctuations in a panel talk in New York City. "My highest weight was 237 pounds [about 107 kilos, editor's note]. I don't know if there's another public figure whose struggle with weight has been as widely publicized over the years as mine," she explained , according to Today.com. "They've all seen me go on diet after diet. It's a recurring thing because my body always seems to want to get back to a certain weight."

She also added: "We live in a world where people have always been ashamed of being overweight, and all of us who have experienced it know that people treat you differently, they just do." People should be able to lose weight in the way that is best for them, he said. "It should be in your own hands and you shouldn't have to be ashamed of it. As a person who has been shamed for so many years, I'm just sick of it."

"The Color Purple" was adapted this time as a musical film by director Blitz Bazawule (41) based on the novel of the same name by Alice Walker (79). The cast includes Taraji. P. Henson (53) and "Ariel" actress Halle Bailey (23). The film is set to open in US cinemas on December 25 and will be released in German cinemas on February 8, 2024.
