On Thursday, a state event in Berlin will have heightened security precautions in place.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, a grand state ceremony is set to take place in Berlin's government district on Thursday. Approximately 1000 police officers will be present to ensure security and traffic control. Drivers should anticipate potential disruptions.
The area between the Federal Chancellery and the Bundestag, situated across from each other, will be entirely closed off. Water police boats will patrol the Spree river. A police helicopter will capture aerial footage of the event. As the police spokeswoman stated, "We're mobilizing all necessary resources for security."
Major cordons will also be set up around the TV tower, the Red City Hall, and the church where the church service (10:00 a.m.) is scheduled at St. Mary's Church on Alexanderplatz. Numerous roads will be temporarily closed to traffic.
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is responsible for organizing this event to commemorate the milestone anniversary of the Basic Law. He will also deliver the keynote address. Joining him are Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), most ministers, various state leaders, and representatives from the Bundestag and other organizations. Around 1100 guests are expected.
Following the state ceremony, a democracy festival will be held in the government district, inviting citizens from Friday to Sunday.
