Oliver Pocher mourns the loss of his discoverer

Hard to believe, but true: without Hans Meiser, Oliver Pocher might never have made a TV career. The comedian's grief for the former RTL presenter is correspondingly great. Meiser's former talk show colleague Vera Int-Veen is also deeply saddened by the 77-year-old's death.

The death of TV legend Hans Meiser is also close to Oliver Pocher's heart. What many people probably don't know: The deceased presenter was actually the man who discovered Pocher. After the comedian appeared on one of Meiser's TV shows in 1999, he was offered a one-week internship at the then music channel Viva. After his stint on the show "Interaktiv", Pocher was offered a permanent position at Viva, which would lay the foundation for his career.

"As I found out today, Hans Meiser has passed away," Pocher now writes on his Instagram page. Meiser and his show were "the absolute turning point in my life", the 45-year-old recalls. Without the presenter and his team, he "would never have been able to start his dream job", Pocher is certain.

Among other things, the comedian published a picture of himself and Meiser from the show at the time. He explains that he is "still grateful to Hans Meiser to this day and will remain so forever." He wished the family and friends of the deceased much strength during this difficult time.

"Hans is a TV legend"

Vera Int-Veen has a different connection to Hans Meiser than Pocher: she was a talk show colleague of the deceased presenter for several years. While he hosted his program named after him on RTL, she was the figurehead of a similar format called "Vera am Mittag" on Sat.1. Int-Veen is now also bidding farewell to her former colleague: "Hans is a TV legend and shaped the television landscape for decades. I will always remember him as a pioneer of daily talk."

Meiser remains the "father of all talk shows", the 56-year-old recalls. He paved the way for her - as well as many other colleagues - for more than a decade of daily talk shows. During their personal meetings, she found him to be a very approachable and humorous colleague. In the end, however, she only had sporadic contact with him. However, they saw each other "every now and then at one event or another or at the airport".

She herself still has fond memories of these times, says Int-Veen: "I wouldn't want to miss a single day. I learned so much from thousands of guests and also gained a lot of experience for my life behind the camera." Her show "Vera am Mittag" was one of the longest-running talk shows on German private television and was broadcast more than 2000 times between 1996 and 2006.

Hans Meiser died unexpectedly of heart failure at the age of 77. He is still regarded today as a television icon, a man from the early days of private television and a pioneer of talk show formats in the 1990s. Meiser initially worked as a news anchor at RTLplus in the 1980s. He started "Hans Meiser" in 1992 and the show was only discontinued in 2000.
