Divorce is in progress - Oliver Pocher about Ex-Wife Amira: 'I'm for her changing her name again'
Oliver Pocher wishes that his ex-wife Amira Pocher (previously Aly) goes back to her original surname. He shared this in the latest episode of his podcast "The Pochers! Freshly recycled" (exclusively on Podimo).
Since Amira has now found a new partner in "taff"-moderator Christian Düren, the comedian is "basically for it" that she changes her name back to her original one," he told his ex-wife and co-podcaster Alessandra Meyer-Wolden. However, he admitted that "it's always a painful discussion with many women." Meyer-Wolden then asked directly, "Why is it so important to you?"
Oliver Pocher sees his name as a brand
His answer: "Because fundamentally, all women come with the argument: 'I want to be named like my children.' That's always the standard argument. But you're not named like our children with surnames. We're being honest, the surname is what makes it interesting for everyone, as it's obviously also a brand."
The name Pocher is "naturally something different than the name Aly," he explained. "That's why Cathy Hummels is Cathy Hummels and not Cathy Fischer. The same goes for Barbara Becker and Natascha Ochsenknecht."
For ex-wife Alessandra Meyer-Wolden, it was not an issue after their divorce in 2014 to go back to her old surname, even though their children still carry the name Pocher. She didn't want to "discuss it with Oliver Pocher" about it. "It's still my free choice. Why should I keep carrying your name? I wanted to make it clear that we were separating. I find it interesting that some women struggle with that."
He hopes that in the future, Amira will "understand the logic" and also wishes her that it continues to go well for her – even without his "renowned" surname.
- Oliver Pocher, discussing the topic on his podcast with Alessandra Meyer-Wölden, expressed his desire for ex-wife Amira Pocher (formerly Aly) to revert to her original surname.
- The reason behind Oliver's request stems from his belief that the surname acts as a brand, making the individual more interesting in people's eyes, as exemplified by Cathy Hummels and Barbara Becker.
- Contrasting this, Alessandra Meyer-Wolden, following their divorce in 2014, did not feel the need to change her surname back, even though their children still carry the name Pocher.
- Oliver Pocher, despite his wishes, acknowledges Amira's autonomy in the matter and expresses hope that she will eventually understand his perspective, wishing her continued success in life, regardless of the surname she chooses to keep.
