Jürgen Becker cries and sniffs. He is as happy as he has been in years. "No day begins where we don't say: I love you. No night starts without it being said." Gisela, his wife for sixteen days, places her hand on his leg. While he wrestles with his tears, she looks at him from the side. "When we are together, it feels as if we are one. The certainty is there: We love each other."
At Pflegeheim St. Josef-Stift in Osnabrück, there has been an official love affair for two weeks that is rare in such a place. Anyone over 75 years old and living in the nursing home is most likely single. Only another pair exists among the sixteen residents of St. Josef-Stift. In other facilities, the percentage of partnerships is similarly low. But the love between Gisela and Jürgen is not just statistically remarkable.

The star encounters the Becker couple on the small velvet sofa in their two-room apartment. "I was married to my first husband for fifty years. I didn't want another one anymore", says Gisela, looking briefly at Jürgen, who sits next to her on the couch. "It's quite unusual that it's different for me at my age – I'll be 83 – and with a ten-year-older man."
Gisela and Jürgen arrived at the St. Josef-Stift on the same day. It's March 20, 2023, and their first encounter happened at lunch. "He was a little earlier there on that day. But I was seated at the table first", Gisela recalls. "Then he was also led to the table and sat down next to me." She had thrown him a sidelong glance, she remembers. "Oh, I thought, not bad."
What is clear from the beginning of their romance: Gisela is the dominant one. She offers Jürgen the "Du" right away, which is a bold come-on for seniors. She is generally spontaneous, he more reserved, she says. From getting to know each other to the first kiss – which is the man's task – painful months have passed.
"His first kiss from him lasted a long time. He was a little shy and actually no one should see it." But one morning, she had already been sitting at the breakfast table, and he had come and had bent down to her suddenly. "Yes, and I got the first kiss, even though all the others were already at the breakfast table."

Whenever Jürgen and Gisela leave Room 402, she sits in a wheelchair and he pushes her.
