Duke of Westminster marries - No invitation for Harry and Meghan
Duchess Meghan (42) and Prince Harry (39) will apparently not be traveling to the British celebrity wedding of the year in June. According to the Sunday Times , the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly not on the guest list for the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor (32), Duke of Westminster, and Olivia Henson (30). Grosvenor is said to be close to both Harry and his brother Prince William (41). The wedding is to take place on June 7 in Chester Cathedral in the northwest of England.
Grosvenor is considered one of the richest men in Britain. According to the Daily Mail, a spokesperson said of the rumors surrounding Meghan and Harry: "We are not in a position to comment on the guest list." As reported by the Sunday Times, Princess Kate (41) and heir to the throne William as well as King Charles III (75) and Queen Camilla (76) will be present at the ceremony.
Grosvenor apparently made the decision not to invite the Sussexes with a heavy heart. According to reports, he wanted to avoid a clash between the allegedly estranged brothers William and Harry at his wedding.
Hugh Grosvenor is said to be the godfather of Prince George and Archie
Hugh Grosvenor is closely associated with the royal family. He is not only godfather to William and Kate's son Prince George (10). The Duke of Westminster is himself a godson of Charles, and his mother, Natalia Grosvenor (64), is godmother to Prince William. Hugh Grosvenor is also reportedly one of the godparents of Harry and Meghan's son Prince Archie (4), according to the Sunday Times.
A friend of William and Harry was quoted in the newspaper as saying: "It is incredibly sad that it has come to this. Hugh is one of the few close friends of William and Harry who maintains a strong friendship and close communication with both of them. He wishes they could get together and sort things out, but is aware that this is unlikely to happen before the wedding. He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn't want any awkwardness."
Grosvenor, who runs an investment and real estate group, became Duke of Westminster after the death of his father Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor (1951-2016) in 2016. His family is not only said to be one of the richest in the UK, it is also known for its charitable work.
