Actor Dean McDermott (57) celebrates a milestone on his way to sobriety with his around 140,000 followers on Instagram.

"Last week was an incredible week full of love, hugs, and healing. Many thanks to my sponsors, my sponsor brothers, and everyone in the community who celebrated my one-year birthday", wrote the native Canadian to a photo showing a countdown chart. In the picture, a card can be seen with the words: "You are literally the unbelievable person."

"A beautiful life awaits you"

In March of this year, McDermott announced in an interview with "PageSix" that he had overcome his alcohol and drug problems. "I am clean and sober", so the actor, who had suffered from his addiction for years. The 57-year-old took professional help and visited a rehab center in California. Six days a week, he attended four therapies a day.

Today, he works in addiction recovery: "I work with alcoholics and addicts and help them find the way I found and where I am now", so the actor.

Meanwhile, McDermott appeals to other addicts on Instagram: "If you're fighting an addiction, ask for help. We're here and waiting for you, to love you until you love yourself. A beautiful life awaits you. Just reach out to us."

Addiction led to divorce

McDermott's alcohol and drug problems were also one of the reasons for Tori Spelling's (51) divorce. In June 2023, the former "Beverly Hills, 90210" star and McDermott announced their separation.

McDermott had taken "a bottle of tequila every night, seven days a week", as he explained in a conversation with the "Daily Mail" in November 2023. He also mentioned a handful of narcotics [prescription drugs].
