Nicole Eggert reveals the most challenging aspect of her cancer fight
In December 2023, ex-"Baywatch" star Nicole Eggert was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, open about her illness, she's sharing her experiences and the aspect of her treatment that's left her most exasperated.
Kicking off 2024, Eggert went public with her diagnosis. She's currently feeling "good," as she shared with "People" magazine. "I'm in this sort of limbo right now, I've completed my treatment, waiting for more tests and hopefully surgery," she mentioned during the premiere of "After Baywatch: Moment in The Sun" in Los Angeles on Monday.
In the interview, Eggert also expressed what she found most difficult in the recent months. "You spend a lot of time waiting, and that's something I wasn't fully aware of, and no one really talks about it," she said. "But the limbo is the hardest part because you never know what's going on. During my treatment, I felt like I was accomplishing something."
Waiting is "frustrating," she added. Meditation has been one of the things helping her, among other things. She also sought help from a shaman. "I try whatever I can, whatever I can do. Whether I go for a walk or do a meditation - I do everything to take my mind off things," said Eggert, sporting her new platinum blonde buzz cut at the L.A. premiere. She shaved her head herself in February to prepare for the cancer treatment.
Her primary source of inspiration
Her daughters Dilyn and Keegan continued to be Eggert's driving force. They "handled it really well" and treated her no differently. "I truly loved that about both of them. They didn't act like anything was changing. The days just seemed the same."
Besides her children, the "Baywatch" documentary series, in which Eggert starred and co-produced, served as a "great distraction." "It was a huge motivation for me, not just to think about my health. It gave me a purpose."
Nicole Eggert portrayed lifeguard Summer Quinn in the "Baywatch" TV series from 1992 to 1994. She also appeared in the TV movie "Baywatch - Wedding in Hawaii" in 2003. The documentary series "After Baywatch" features former "Baywatch" stars sharing their experiences, and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage.
As Eggert navigates her recovery, she finds solace in the support of her "Baywatch" family. Attending the premiere of "After Baywatch: Moment in The Sun" in Hollywood, she was surrounded by fellow cast members who have become like family to her.
Despite being based in Hollywood, Eggert's primary inspiration remains her daughters, Dilyn and Keegan, who handle her illness with strength and love.
