Nicolas Cage wants to say "Adios" to cinema

Nicolas Cage is constantly in front of the camera, with films featuring him being released every month, mostly in Hollywood's B category. The Oscar winner has been doing this for 45 years now. Now he finally wants more time for his family. But he doesn't want to give up acting altogether.

Hollywood star Nicolas Cage is apparently thinking about ending his career on the big screen and saying goodbye to making films. In a new interview with the online portal "Uproxx" on the occasion of his new film "Dream Scenario", the actor has now spoken about his thoughts of saying goodbye to his career to date. "I feel that at this point - after 45 years, in which I've made over 100 films - I've pretty much said everything I had to say in the movies. And I would like to leave with a good feeling and say 'adios'," explains Cage in the interview.

However, he rules out a complete retirement from the acting business in the same breath: "I think I have three or four more films to make before I can achieve that and hopefully I can change format and find another way to express my acting." He would actually have liked to say goodbye with a project like "Dream Scenario", but he still has other contracts he has to fulfill, Cage hints. However, he wants to be very strict in the selection of his projects in future.

Series projects like "Breaking Bad" appeal to Cage

Above all, he has started to take an interest in television series, explains Cage: "I've seen what you can do today with characters and with the time you give them to express themselves. I've seen Bryan Cranston stare at a suitcase for an hour in an episode of 'Breaking Bad'. We don't have time for that in a feature film, so maybe TV is the next step for me."

The fact that he is interested in filming a more long-term format is also due to his age, explains Nicolas Cage. He wants to spend time with his family. "I'll be 60 next month and my father died at 75, so if I'm lucky I'll have more years than him, but I don't know. (...) What's important are my children, I have a little daughter. If I can find a series that's filmed in a place where I don't have to be away all the time, we could all be together."

Nicolas Cage won the Oscar in the "Best Actor" category in 1995 for his role as the alcoholic and failed screenwriter Ben Sanderson in the movie "Leaving Las Vegas". This remains the Hollywood star's greatest success to date. Cage recently declared that he categorically rejects the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in films. AI is "a nightmare" for him. It is "inhuman", according to Cage.
