After "Wednesday" - Netflix plans spin-off about Uncle Fester
No big surprise after the mega success of "Wednesday": Netflix is said to be planning the next series from the "Addams Family" universe. According to the business magazine "Bloomberg ", the streaming giant is thinking about a series about Uncle Fester. And according to "Bloomberg", this is only the first of various projects based around the "Addams Family".
Details about the spin-off of "Wednesday" are not yet known. According toBloomberg, it is not even certain whether filming will take place at all. After all, the schedules of all the actors from the parent series would have to be coordinated. A second season of "Wednesday" is also still being filmed.
After its launch on November 23, 2022, "Wednesday" quickly became a cult phenomenon - and the most successful English-language series in Netflix's history. The streaming service ordered a second season in January 2023. The series by Tim Burton (65) was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Comedy last year. Lead actress Jenna Ortega (21) was also nominated.
Uncle Fester: established fan favorite of the Addams Family
Uncle Fester has been one of the most popular characters in the Addams family for decades. The creepy clan from the pen of Charles Addams (1912-1988) first appeared as a cartoon in "The New Yorker" in the 1930s. In the first television series from the 1960s, he is Morticia Addams' uncle - in all other film or series versions, he is Gomez Addams' brother - and therefore Wednesday's uncle.
"Back to the Future" star Christopher Lloyd (85) played the bald-headed eccentric in the films of the early 1990s. In "Wednesday", comedian Fred Armisen (57) plays him.
