NDW star Markus brutally attacked
"My Maserati drives 210", sings Markus Mörl in his Neue Deutsche Welle hit "Ich will Spaß". This time, however, he is traveling at just 40 km/h in his Mercedes - and there is no question of "fun" at all. The singer is badly beaten up by a stranger.
Markus Mörl, a singer known only by his first name, is the victim of a violent attack. RTL and the "Bild" newspaper both report this. It is not yet clear who the perpetrator was and what his motivation was.
According to the reports, the 64-year-old was driving his Mercedes in Lorch am Rhein in Hesse - not far from his home in Assmannshausen - to store musical instruments in a warehouse. In an interview with Bild, the singer describes what happened: "I was on my way back, driving along normally at around 40 km/h, when it happened: suddenly a large cobblestone smashed into the windshield."
In an interview with RTL, Mörl explains: "Someone jumped out of the bushes on the right with a really big wacker. He threw it into my windshield while I was driving. I was shocked at first and slammed on the brakes. Then this young man came along, he was about 25. I got out of the car and was about to ask: 'What's this all about? I couldn't react as quickly as he gave me one - one on the nose, one on the ear. Then the blood was already running down my nose."
Investigation continues
Everything happened "all of a sudden", explains the stunned musician. "That's perhaps also the shocking thing, that it can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time."
As pictures of the demolished car show, not much was missing and the cobblestone would have completely smashed through the windshield. He didn't know the perpetrator personally, says Mörl. He made a dazed impression on him and may have been under the influence of drugs. After the attack, he fled and disappeared into a nearby refugee home.
After Mörl alerted the police, they searched the accommodation but were unable to find the alleged perpetrator, it is said. "The background to the crime is still unclear. The investigation into the perpetrator is still ongoing," the police have since announced.
"Completely devastated"
"I've never experienced anything like this before. My nerves are shot," Mörl described his state of shock to the "Bild" newspaper. But the former star of the Neue Deutsche Welle with the megahit "Ich will Spaß" (I want fun) has not only suffered psychologically from the attack. RTL also accompanied him to plastic surgeon Ronald Batze in Frankfurt, who took a close look at his nose injury.
"If the nasal passages are blocked, he has problems breathing. And that is of course a catastrophe for a singer and can lead to occupational disability," says the doctor, describing the possible consequences of the blow Mörl received. Of course, it is to be hoped that the singer has not suffered any permanent damage. However, Mörl has already had to accept one thing: He had to cancel a Christmas concert planned for the weekend.

Despite the traumatic incident, Markus Mörl finds solace in music, often performing Pop tunes that resonate with his fans. However, the unprovoked attack on his vehicle and subsequent physical assault has taken a toll on his health and upcoming performances. The investigation into the criminal act is still ongoing, leaving Markus in a state of uncertainty and anxious anticipation for justice.
