Music artist Lily Allen returned the canine to the animal shelter.
"Critics are calling out singer Lily Allen as 'heartless' due to her recent actions. She shared on her podcast that she gave up a dog she'd adopted during the pandemic because the pet accidentally chewed up their passports. Allen stated that the dog was poorly trained and its mistake led to significant financial losses and travel disruptions."
"In her 'Miss Me?' podcast episode, Allen explained, 'We'd adopted a dog, and unfortunately, it munched on our passports and visas. I can't tell you how much it cost to replace everything, especially during Covid. It was an absolute logistical nightmare.' Living in New York with her partner David Harbour and their children Ethel and Marnie, she added that the incident prevented her daughters from visiting their father in England for 'four, five months'."
"Not All Dogs Bite"
Allen saw no other alternative but to return the dog: "It wasn't just the passports it destroyed, the dog was terribly undertrained. I truly gave it my best, but nothing seemed to work, and the passports were just the start of it all." However, Allen's story didn't evoke any sympathy.
A wave of criticism followed Lily Allen's revelation on social media, which was covered by the "Daily Mail". One user wrote, "Did she store the passports in a place a puppy could reach? No. Such a wicked person," while another commented, "She's the one to blame, not the poor creature. It's a disaster she didn't keep important documents away from pets." A third tweeted, "It's not the dog ruining lives, it's the owner who isn't accountable for their belongings. The dog didn't bring down her world, she did it with her neglect."
Despite the negative past experience, Allen plans to expand her family by welcoming another pet. She and her daughters have decided on a Chihuahua mix and have set their hearts on naming it Jude Bellingham, inspired by the English footballer with the same name."
"Despite the backlash, Allen still Holdss hope for another pet, expressing her desire to adopt a Chihuahua mix named Jude Bellingham."
"Some netizens defended the dog, arguing that 'It's not the dog ruining lives, it's the owner who isn't accountable for their belongings.'"
